For years, I’d heard whispers and seen breathtaking photos of Lyon’s Fête des Lumières, a legendary festival of light. This past December, I finally had the incredible opportunity to experience it firsthand, and it was everything I imagined and more.
Stepping into Lyon during the festival felt like entering a dreamscape. Despite the biting cold, the city buzzed with an electrifying energy, as huge crowds gathered to witness the magic. Every corner seemed to hold a new surprise, with countless captivating and evocative installations transforming iconic buildings, parks, and even the riverbanks into canvases of light. From grand projections to intricate, interactive displays, the artistry on show was simply phenomenal.
Navigating the bustling streets and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere was an unforgettable adventure, made even better by the fantastic company I was with. Sharing those moments of awe and wonder, despite the chilly air, truly enhanced the entire experience. The Fête des Lumières is a massive, immersive spectacle that lives up to its reputation, and I’m so glad I finally got to be a part of it.
